A multi-city brand and a copyright violation raid were led to Surat and Mumbai Tuesday after Gopal Snacks Ltd, based in Rajkot, obtained an ex-part order from Bombay’s high court, supporting the violation of his registered trademark.The company presented a petition in the Bombay HC claiming that the entities operating with the names “Gopendra”, “Shree Gopal” and “Gops” were using a deceptively similar packaging and illegally exploiting the “Gopal” brand.

The Alta Court of Bombay has appointed a judicial commissioner in Mumbai and a further receiver of the special court in Gujarat, authorizing them to conduct Raid with police assistance. In a single day, the authorities performed incursions in five locations – four in Surat (aimed at Gopendra, Shree Gopal and Gops) and one in Mumbai – with consequent seizure of significant quantities of counterfeit goods and packaging materials, according to a declaration of DN Ahya and company, an intellectual property and a consultancy company on company law.

Darshit Ahya, secretary and lawyer of the company, said: “These goods in violation were available in Mumbai and since the Snack Gopal have its main place of activity in Mumbai together with a production plant in the Maharashtra, we intended the cause in the high court of Bombay. We have requested an ex-part order to prevent the defendants of intentionally contemplating the goods before the research.Ahya added that a raid report will be presented to the court in seven days.
